White doves - a breed of Rock Dove or domestic homing pigeon - perch on a power wire. White doves are used for ceremonial release, and so are also called release doves. The birds are released at important functions to commemorate milestones in life. They represent offerings of hope at weddings and birthdays, and represent the soul's final journey at funerals. They are part of a large flock that can fly freely, but always return to roost at night in a neighborhood backyard, where they feed and are captured for release events.
