Hyde from hills above and to the south looking north.
Hyde in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. Located 7 miles east of Manchester at the foot of the Pennine's.
The central horizontal third of the photograph shows Hyde town centre with the distinctive red brick town hall and clock tower on the left hand edge. In the distance Ashton under Lyne denoted by the yellow and blue building, with the town of Oldham on the hill in the far distance.
Hyde is notoriously famous for being the home town of Britain's most prolific serial killer, Dr Harold Shipman (arrested 1998) who had his doctor's surgery in the town.
Infamous child murderer's Myra Hindley and Ian Brady also lived just outside the town at Hattersley and were arrested there in October 1965.
In September 2012 two Policewomen were murdered by a wanted fugitive in a gun and grenade attack after being lured to the same housing estate where Hindley and Brady had committed murder 47 years earlier.
