Description

The Grundtvig Church - Grundtvigs kirke - was built built in memory of the great danish writer, theologist, poet - particularly hymns - philosofer, historian, priest, bishop,

philologist and politician, Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig (1783 - 1872) who has had a profound influence on the development of Denmark and danish society.
The cornerstone was laid in 1921 and it was inaugurated in 1940. The architect was Peder Vilhelm Jensen Klint who died in 1939. He was followed by his son Kaare Klint.
The church is clearly inspired both by the gothic danish borough churches and the great gothic cathedrals around Europe, but using ordinary white-yellow bricks it radiates light

and serenity.
The church lies in Bispebjerg (Bishops Hill) in the northwestern part of Copenhagen.
