Italy. Rome. Piazza Navona. Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi. Piazza Navona is a well-known square in Rome. It follows the form of a stadium built by emperor Domitian in 1st century AD. It is a significant example of Baroque architecture and art. It features important sculptural and architectural creations: the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1651); the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone by Francesco Borromini and others; the Pamphili palace, with frescoes by Pietro da Cortona; the Fontana del Moro by Giacomo della Porta (1575) to which, in 1673, Bernini added a statue of a Moor wrestling with a dolphin; the Fountain of Neptune by Giacomo della Porta (1574).
