Large Celtic hoard of all time containing 70,000 coins, axe heads and gold jewellery weighing three quarters of a tonne of silver and gold dating from 50BC from Brittany or Normandy in France. Most of the silver looks green because of the high copper content which was common in the past. Brought to Jersey and buried to hide from the Roman legions of Julius Caesar who were advancing North-Westward towards the coast.
This occasion was the last time to see the hoard whole before breaking up for a full examination, since coming up from the ground it is oxidizing from the oxygen in the air so it is vital to protect and preserve the contents which is full of archeology even mud, grass and seeds have important information. This will take years of careful preservation.
