Description
"General John Manners, Marquess of Granby (1721 aa 1770), was a British soldier most notable for serving in the Seven Years' War. Scan from Lodge's Portraits published in 1835, engraved by H.Robinson after the original painting by Joshua Reynolds. Granby was a popular subject for portraits: Sir Joshua Reynolds and his studio painted him at least 16 times. In these portraits Reynolds shows him hatless and wigless, as Granby wanted to be seen aa as the bald-headed general who really went at it and fought hard among private soldiers."
