Description
Rough red bark of a Lawson cypress tree Chamaecyparis lawsoniana photographed in vertical orientation.

Another name for this cypress tree is Port Orford cedar, since it was found in 1854 near Port Orford in Michigan, though it is not a cedar. In fact, despite the inaccuracy, Port Orford cedar is a preferred name in the United States. In general, botanists prefer the more accurate Lawson or Lawson's cypress.

Lawson cypress is planted in parks in the UK.
