Description

Lotus, solus, glistening in sunlight, India

Lotus is India's national flower and found in a variety of colours. Usually found in shallow ponds they have large leaves that float on water. This pink mauve lotus bud was shot in a garden pond. Lotus has been used in widely in Indian mythology, paintings and other depictions and is often associated with love or romance.
God's display of HIS creation in all its splendor.
I was fascinated by the effect that the direct sunlight had on the flower, bringing out the brilliance, texture, tones and the translucent nature of the petals! If you look closely, the yellow stalks of the stamens seem to be actually glowing in the sunlight!
