Building - Activity, Built Structure, California, Campus, City Of Los Angeles
Los Angeles, California, USA - August 24, 2013: A luffing tower crane is onsite for new high rise construction in downtown Los Angeles. Matt Construction is the general contractor engaged in the project. It retained Bigge to assemble one of its Comedil CTL 630 luffing tower cranes onsite at Belmont Village in West Los Angeles. This luffing tower crane is specifically suited for congested construction sites and the jib can be luffed to an almost vertical position - attaining excellent hook heights while avoiding adjacent buildings and preserving neighborhood air rights. Four years of planning preceded construction, which began a few months ago on the $70 million project on Wilshire Boulevard, near the UCLA campus. The independent and assisted-living housing development will cater to UCLA alumni and faculty.
