'Algiers, Algeria - December 7, 2012: The Martyrs Memorial (Maqam Echahid), located on the heights of Algiers, was erected in memory of those who died in the Algerian War of Independence that raged from 1954 to 1962. The monument was completed in 1982, 20 years after Algeria gained its independence from France. The three arms, representing three palm leaves, shelter the eternal flame that burns beneath the monument. Two people are studying the plaque at the base that gives information about the monument.'
