Description

Mohos Peat-Bog or Tinovul Mohos (Moss Lake) is located in an extinct volcanic crater of Ciomatu Massif. At 1050 m above sea level, the peat bog is one of the most important botanic nature reserves in Romania. The tourists are not allowed to visit the peat bog alone; they have to follow strictly the wooden walkway, because of the instable peat bog surface. Because the peat is thinner in the middle, the pines have grown only 1.5 - 2 meters tall. The Mohos peat bog is famous for its ice-age relict plants.
