Description

'One of several martello towers constructed by the british in Kingston, Ontario, to protect the city from an Amercian Attack in the early 1800s. The towers' round shape makes them virtually impenetrable by canonfire, and the roof (a poorly planned addition to the original design) keeps snow out in the winter, but also makes it impossible to fire the canons inside. Of course, the roof can be removed, but that job takes an entire day.Kingston was never attacked by the Americans, but had it been, we would have needed at least 24 hours notice ;-)'
