Description
Newspaper Rock is a petroglyph panel etched on a sandstone wall in southeastern Utah. The symbols are etched into desert varnish, a mineral deposit that forms on sandstone. The exact nature of the symbols is not understood other than representing Fremont, Anasazi, Navajo and Anglo cultures. This site is arguable one of the finest displays of prehistoric and historic rock art to be found anywhere in the U.S.
