The Clock Tower, or Palazzo dell'Orologio is located on the northern part of Piazza dei Cavalieri in Pisa.
Today It contains the Library of the Scuola Normale Superiore.

It is composed of two main structures, which already existed in the middle ages and were connected from the beginning by a vault.
On the left there was the tower-house called the Palazzotto della Giustizia, seat of the magistrates of Pisa, and on the right there was the tower, called dei Gualandi or Torre del Muda.
This name refers to the feather changing of the eagle, symbol of Pisa. But the tower was especially known as Hunger Tower - Torre della Fame - because of the tragic death of Count Ugolino della Gherardesca which took place there and which is told by Dante in Canto XXXIII of the Inferno, in the Divine Comedy.
