Burtscheid, Germany - May 20, 2013: The parish church of St. John the Baptist in Aachen (Aachen-Burtscheid today) is a John the Baptist, Catholic church and former abbey church. When the heavy bombing on 11 Burtscheid April 1944 the buildings were heavily damaged and partially destroyed. In the basement of the west wing were numerous police protection seekers and death. On 29 November 1950, the southwestern corner tower had to be demolished because it threatened to collapse and a danger to passers-by. The reconstruction lasted until the 1960s. In the photo the tower and dome of the church is to be seen.
