Description

Conidia of the fungus Barriopsis iraniana. This photograph illustrates the asexual state of the ascomycete fungus. The photograph was taken with a microscope equipped with differential interference contrast optics, which gives a three dimensional effect. This type of optical system results in a high degree of contrast while keeping the aperture wide open, thus ensuring optimal resolution and contrast.
