Vicenza, Italy - March 17, 2013: View of Piazza dei Signori at twilight with the two famous building designed by Palladio (Basilica Palladiana and Loggia del Capitaniato). Dramatic perspective because of the usage of an extreme wide angle lens.
Description
Piazza dei Signori with Basilica Palladiana and Loggia del Capitaniato. Vicenza-Italy.

The Basilica Palladiana is a relevant sample of a Renaissance building.
Originally built is 15th century as “Palazzo della Ragione” (Palace of Reason), after a partial collapse it was reconstructed accordingly to a Palladio project.
Palladio added to the exsting building, a new outer-shell of marble classical forms, a loggia and a portico that now obscure the original Gothic architecture.
The building was the seat of government and also housed, and it is still housing, a number of shops on the ground floor.

The palazzo del Capitaniato, also known as loggia del Capitanio or loggia Bernarda, was also designed by Andrea Palladio and built between 1571 and 1572. Actually it is used by the town council.
