A wide angle panoramic view of Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire. The tiny fishermen's cottages of the old village snuggle along the steep, twisting street that leads down to the shore. The raging storms have taken their toll, claiming many buildings as the limestone cliffs erode. In 1780, 22 cottages fell into the sea, and in 1975, the 40 ft high sea-wall was completed to protect the picturesque village from further erosion. Whilst the beach is not suitable for bathing it is popular with fossil-hunters.
