Description
Constructed during the 2nd century, the stadium measured 334 x 34 metres and was built on a substructure of 70 vaulted chambers. The tiered seating above the vaulted chambers provided a seating capacity of around 12,000. Founded by the Greeks in the 4th century BC but later developed by the Romans in the early centuries A.D., Perge was one of the finest cities of the ancient world. Located close to the Mediterranean Sea, Perge formed part of ancient Pamphylia, Asia Minor.
