Description

Founded by the Greeks perhaps as early as the 8th century BC but later developed by the Romans in the early centuries AD, Aspendos is renowned for its magnificent amphitheatre. Occupying a hill rising behind the amphitheatre, the citadel contains several buildings dating from the Roman and Byzantine periods. Located close to the Mediterranean Sea, Aspendos formed part of ancient Pamphylia, Asia Minor.
