Unlike many plastic wall-trophy-fish images, this is a picture of a real, wild Alaskan salmon known as red salmon, or sockey salmon or scientifically Oncorhynchus nerka. Spawning males develop dull-green head and brick-red to scarlet bodies, pretty for a picture, bad to eat. This specimen has been caught in Kenai River, Alaska, and released soon after picture taking.
