San Francisco, California, USA - October 9, 2008: The view across a high school football field toward downtown San Francisco skyscrapers with Cesar Chavez Street mid-distance separating the Mission District and Bernal Heights. Cesar Chavez Street was more like a freeway with its six lanes and heavy traffic. 2011 saw plans to completely revamp the boulevard - a reduction of lanes with the addition of space to make it more friendly to pedestrians and bicyclists. Part of the thinking is to reduce its effect as a barrier between the two communities.
