Seville (Sevilla). Santa Maria Cathedral with the Giralda Tower. Seville's Santa Maria Cathedral is the largest gothic cathedral and the third largest church in the world. Its construction, decided after the earthquake of 1356, began in 1402 on the site of the former Great Mosque, and continued until 1506. Its bell tower, the Giralda Tower (Torre Giralda) - more than 100 meters high - was originally the minaret of the Mosque.
