HIllsboro, New Mexico, USA - June 23, 2013: While this image appears to depict a sheriff's officer watching for speeders on a remote New Mexico highway, take another look. This is actually a "dummy car" strategically placed in the tiny rural village of Hillsboro, New Mexico, and it's a fairly common practice in similar New Mexico villages where it's not economical to station full-time law enforcement personnel. The dummy placed behind dark-tinted windows looks like an officer, complete with coffee cup. But if you think it's safe to speed on through, remember that sometimes these patrol cars are the real thing. A real-life deputy just might spring to life and chase you down if you fail to put on the brakes and observe village speed limits.

While this sheriff's car appears to have a deputy waiting to trap speeders in a rural New Mexico village, this scene is actually a fake designed to get people to slow down. The car's occupant is actually a dummy, complete with coffee cup.
