Dehradun, India, January 31, 2012 -- A young kitchen worker sifts through coriander seeds to remove rotten seeds, twigs and other debris. She will then grind the seeds into powder that will be packaged and sold by a local non-governmental organization.

This young woman works for Astitva, a non-governmental organization in Dehradun, India. Astitva helps abused women start small business and find jobs so that they can become economically self-sufficient. Two women operate the kitchen as a profit-making business. They prepare meals for staff, students in a day-care center and deliver tiffins to local business people at lunch. The ground coriander will be sold in Astitva's thrift store.
