This is one of the more fascinating photos from my series on the Space Shuttle Atlantis launch (STS-122 mission). In this photo, the vehicle is going through high-level clouds (around 35 thousand feet) about 55 seconds into the flight. The clouds light up and cast a vertical shadow which can be seen on the left hand side of the photo. Note that this is also around the time of maximum dynamic pressure (Max-Q for aerospace folks out there).
