Description
"The St. George (Utah, USA) Mormon Temple was completed by early Mormon pioneers over a 5 1/2 year period. Dedicated on April 6, 1877, it stands today as a monument to the tenacity and faithfulness of the pioneers who settled St. George. Over a million feet of lumber was used in constructing the building. Much of it was hand-hewn, then hauled from Mt. Trumbull, 80 miles away, or from Pine Valley Mountains, a distance of 37 miles north of St. George. The walls were laid up of hand-hewn sandstone blocks, and plastered a bright white, contrasting with the rich reds of the cliffs surrounding the town."
