Description
St Lawrence, who was slowly roasted on a gridiron, is the martyr after whom this church is named. 'Jewry' refers to the fact that this church was located near the Jewish Quarter in medieval London. This church was rebuilt by Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London in 1666, but was gutted by German bombers during the Second World War Blitz on 29 December 1940. It was restored by Cecil Brown in 1957.
