Description
standing buddha with two bodhisattvas, Northern Wei Dynasty(386-534AD),China.
This type of sculpture was prevalent at Qingzhou between the late Northern Wei and Eastern Wei. The boat-shaped nimbus is commonly decorated with a stupa or dragon at the centre top and surrounded by flying apsaras(celestial beings). The central Buddha is usually dressed in a loose kasaya with flowing fabric and stands barefoot on a lotus pedestal. Two flanking bodhisattvas stand on lotus pedestals supported by lotus leaves.
