Description

This sculpture is of Tadeusz (aka Thaddeus) Kosciuszko. It was first dedicated in September 1904 in Humboldt Park. The sculptor was Kasimir Chodzinski (whose first and last names are spelt many different ways, from Casimir to Kazimierz and from Chodsinski to Chodzinski). He died in 1920.

Thaddeus Kosciusko (Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kosciuszko) was born in Poland, and served as a colonel in the American civil War, and was later promoted to Brigadier General. As a military engineer, Kosciuszko constructed many military strongholds including West Point.
