Description
bronze statue of Hugo Grotius (1583-1645), also known as Hugo de Groot, in front of the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft. The statue was made by sculptor Frans Stracke (1820-1898). Hugo de Groot worked as a jurist in the Dutch Republic and laid the foundations for international law, based on natural law. He was also a philosopher, theologian, apologist, playwright and poet; Delft, Netherlands
