Description
Stinging nettles Urtica dioica in strong silhouette against a soft-focus background. Nettles are imbued with many medical properties, including skin care. The traditional remedy for a nettle sting is to rub the wound with a dock leaf.

Here is a verse from a poem collected in Ayrshire, Scotland, where nettles were collected and cooked:

Cowe it laich, cowe it sune, Cowe it in the month o' June;
Stoo it 'ere it's in the bloom, Cowe the nettle early.

Meaning:

Cut it low, cut it soon, Cut it in the month of June,
Store before it comes in bloom, Cut the nettle early.
