Originally from Uruguay / South America, these terrapins enjoyed 15 minutes of fame when the teenage mutant ninja turtles entered our living rooms. Along with the turtles, the terrapins' star faded and many were released into the wild. These have survived the dredging of their home pond and are sun bathing on a branch in Mitcham Pond, Surrey, England.

This terrapin is also known as the red-eared slider.
