Bruges, Belgium - June 22, 2012: The Belfry (Belltower) in Market Square (Markt) in historic city center. It is a medieval bell tower that formerly housed a treasury and the municipal archives, and served as an observation post for spotting fires and other danger. In the 16th century the tower received a carillon, allowing the bells to be played by means of a hand keyboard. Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Tourists are walking around.
