Venice, Italy - July 15, 2007: Tourists enjoy a tour of the beautiful surroundings of the Grand Canal sitting in a comfortable gondola while a man rows the boat. Around them private and public motorised taxis go about transporting people across. Venice is one of the most important and popular tourist destinations in the world because of its richness in art and architecture. The Grand Canal, one of the popular attractions of the city, is a S shaped canal measuring 3800m in length and 30-90m in width, running through the city. The majority of the city's traffic moves along the canal, which is lined with houses built from the 13th to the 18th centuries, on both sides. In earlier times Gondolas were used to travel along the river, however today they are mainly used for touristic purposes. Motorised waterbuses and ferries are used today for public transport.
