The iconic World Heritage site, Mont Saint Michel, in Brittany France. The rocky tidal outcrop can be seen for miles around, reaching for the sky 1km off the shoreline of the incredibly flat Bay of Mont Saint Michel. It is the number 2 tourist destination in France, behind the Eiffel Tower. The first monastery built on the rock dates from the 8th century, changing through the centuries, with the principal ecclesiastical features being built in the 12th century which was then mostly burnt down in a fire during a siege in 1204. The current architecture with it’s Norman Benedictine Abbey is principally from the rebuild thereafter. The site attracts 3 million visitors a year including many touring, by car or motor home, through this beautiful part of Normandy and Brittany. Good copy space.
