Turkestan Onion (Allium karataviense) 'Ivory Queen'.

Allium karataviense is a spunky plant with a large flower globe. It is a dwarf ornamental onion compared to the giant species in the Melanocrommyum group of Alliums, in which it belongs. It grows exceptionally well in Mediterranean climate, as the plants go dormant by the time our annual drought comes around. Some gardeners grow the species and its cultivars because it has the most attractive foliage in the entire genus.

Allium is the onion genus, with about 1250 species, making it one of the largest plant genera in the world. Members of the genus include many valued vegetables such as onions, shallots, leeks and herbs such as garlic and chives.
