Famous Belgrade landmark and unofficial symbol ofthe city: Victor Monument (Serbian: Spomenik pobedniku). Located in Kalemegdan Fortress, it was created by most famous Jugoslavian sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic (Serbian/Croatian: Ivan Meštrović) between 1912-1914 to commemorate the Serbian victory in "Balkan War", finally liberating the country from 500 years of Otomman Empire rule. The monument was erected only after the World War I, in 1928.
