Its beautiful landscape includes vineyards, many of which are built on terraces overlooking the Danube, villages, abbeys, and small towns rich in history. Located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems, the Wachau is about 40 kilometers (25 mi) in length and is crossed by footpaths and cycle paths.
