This unusual structure, thought to be a beacon erected to inform the population of the victory at the Battle of Waterloo in the early 1800's and has been painted a variety of colours over the years. It has very recently been painted white again with a black ball finial on the top.
It is highly visible from aircraft on approach to Manchester Airport.
