Variable low to short, hairless or slightly hairy annual or short-lived perennial; stems erec or ascending. leaves oval with a heart-shaped base, the upper leaves narrower, generally lanceolate, all bluntly toothed; stipules deeply pinnately-lobed. Flowers violet-blue, or a mixture of violet-blue, yellow and white, occasionally entirely yellow, 10-25mm, the spur 3-5mm.
Habitat: Rough Grassland, waste Places, cultivated Land and a weed on arable Land on acid or neutral Soils.
Flowering Season: April-October.
Distribution: Throughout Europe, except Spitsbergen.

This Picture is of the subspecies curtisii, which is growing in the (open) Sand Dunes in the Western Parts of the Netherlands and other North See Shores of Europe.

The Species is known as Herbal Medicine.
