Description

Medium to tall, greyish, somewhat fleshy biennial or short-lived perennial, with yellow latex. leaves pinnately-lobed, undulate, the basal long-stalked, the upper clasping tehe stem, roughly hairy/spiny. Flowers yellow, 6-9cm, solitary. Capsule very long, to 30cm, linear, sickle-shaped, splitting lengthwise when ripe, hairless.
Habitat: Sandy places, especially coastal dunes, shingle and cliffs, waste ground inland, always on well (calcareous) drained soils.
Flowering Season: June-September.
Distribution: Europe north to S Norway.
The Species is poisonous, but also used as Medical Plant, as other Species of the Poppy Family.
