Lethbridge, Canada - July 14, 2012: Young girl joins the Bon Odori Dance. Bon Odori is a Japanese celebration of dancing and music wearing traditional dress. The Bon Odori dance itself is an outdoor Japanese Buddhist folk dance. Participants dance in a circular pattern around a taiko (drum) on a decorated raised platform. They are celebrating Obon - dancing for joy, remembering and honoring the people who have passed away, appreciating what those departed did for them, and acknowledging that their influence still remains in their lives. During the dance, the participants have time to self-reflect and are reminded to practice Dana (self-less giving) to everyone, including family and friends, and all beings. Everyone attending - children and adults, are invited to join the dancing circle and participate - being shown the steps to each dance.
