The Chandos portrait is the most famous of the portraits believed to show William Shakespeare. Painted between 1600 and 1610, it may have served as the basis for the engraved portrait of Shakespeare. Named after the Dukes of Chandos, who formerly owned the painting.

The likeness of Shakespeare of the 'Felton Head' is one that will fascinate the great majority of the poet's admirers. It is a splendid portrait of Shakespeare, and speaks of the painter's lofty conception of the poet's features. Its history is curious, the name, 'Gul Shakespear,' and, '1597,' together with the initials, R. B.,' on the reverse of the picture, indicate some authorities believe is Richard Burbage.

An excellent likeness , which recalls the 'Chandos' portrait. Was painted by Soest, or Zoust. That artist was born in 1635, when Shakespeare had been dead for 19 years.
