Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal, known for its cultural heritage, temples, and palaces. Thamel is a popular tourist area. The city is a spiritual hub with Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Swayambhunath, or the Monkey Temple, is an ancient and important Buddhist stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. It has a white dome with a golden spire and "all-seeing eyes" of Buddha. People climb stairs to reach it, and there are many monkeys around.
A prayer wheel is a cylindrical wheel on a spindle made from metal, wood, stone, leather, or coarse cotton, widely used in Tibet and areas where Tibetan culture is predominant. Traditionally, a mantra is written in Tibetan language, on the outside of the wheel. The mantra Om mani padme hum is most commonly used, but other mantras may be used as well.
The photo was taken in front of a Buddhist monastery on the Tibetan Plateau and shows a pilgrim prostrating on the ground, the traditional practice of prayer and purification.

Mustang region is the former Kingdom of Lo and now part of Nepal, in the north-central part of that country, bordering the People's Republic of China on the Tibetan plateau between the Nepalese provinces of Dolpo and Manang.
