A grain boat being pulled along the Erie Canal in New York State by horses on the tow-path. A possible entanglement with a boat going in the opposite direction causes one of the crew to deliver a loud blast on a horn in warning. The horn would also be used to warn lock keepers of approaching vessels.

The River is wide at this point and runs right theough the centre of town. It is popular with tourist and residents alike and on sunny days like this one, people come out to walk alongside the river.
