Description

Snack time! The best thing about such a long neck? Easier to get the treats others have left behind! This loverly fellow was spotted as we explored the Samburu National Park in Kenya. The park is 165 sq km and is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro river in Kenya, 350 km from Nairobi and ranges in altitude from 800 to 1230 m above sea level. Besides the river, the Reserve is a mixture of acacia, riverine forest, thorn trees and grassland vegetation and is home to a wide variety of animals. Over 350 species of birds can be found here as well as several large game species common to Kenya's northern plains like, gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, oryx and reticulated giraffes. You can also fine lion, cheetah, leopard (not as easy), elephants, buffalo, hippos, olive baboon, warthogs, Grant's gazelle, Kirk's dik-dik, impala and waterbuck. The river also contains large numbers of Nile crocodile, however unfortunately, rhinos are no longer present in the park due to heavy poaching.
