The Great Egret, or Casmerodius albus, is the most widespread heron in Belize and can be found on all five continents in savannas, coastal lagoons and marshes. Their diets consists mainly of fish, aquatic invertebrates and reptiles but they have been known to eat small mammals and snails during the dry seasons. This particular specimen is standing on a bare tree branch sticking out of the water at Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. His wings are spreading for take off.
