Stock photo description

The Colosseum was built in the 70s AD and was the largest amphitheatre built during the Roman Empire. Capable of seating 70,000 spectators, the amphitheatre was used until 524 when a series of earthquakes severely damaged the structure. Originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, it was used for gladiatorial combat until Christianity slowly ended this form of entertainment.
