Description

Vikings creating fire for the 900plus torches required for the Shetland Isles' Up Helly Aa fire festival. Shetland Isles, North of Scotland, UK.

The stunning 'Up Helly Aa' takes place in Lerwick, Shetland Isles, Scotland on the last Tuesday in January every year. The day involves a series of marches and visitations by the Guizer Jarl (after a 15 year wait) and his squad of fellow vikings, culminating in a torch lit procession of over 800+ vikings and guizers and the burning of the galley. Watched over by thousands of locals and visitors who travel from all over the world to see the spectacular event.
